District Programme 1
Introduced in 2017, Green Innovation Challenge (G!nnovation Challenge) is an annual competition for primary and secondary school students which aims to instil environmental awareness and challenge students to devise innovative solutions to tackle environmental issues.
G!nnovation Challenge 2021 was co-organised by North East Community Development Council (CDC) and DBS - POSB PAssion Run for Kids, and supported by the National Environment Agency (NEA), PUB, Singapore’s National Water Agency, and Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT).
The theme for G!nnovation Challenge 2021 was “Sustainability in Consumption” and teams were challenged to produce a short video to raise awareness and/ or showcase creative solutions to tackle one of the three topics:
• Reducing Food Waste
• Energy Conservation
• Water Conservation
18 teams from 11 schools participated. Participants attended online workshops on design thinking and storyboarding/ video-editing which were organised and sponsored by STI and DBS respectively. After 2 months of working on their projects, teams presented their projects to the judges.
Through this, not only did the students learn more about environmental issues, they also had the opportunity to effect changes in the community through innovation.

North East Green Adventure Superheroes
North East Green Adventure Programme
The North East Green Adventure programme, which started in 2017, aims to promote environmental awareness among children aged 4 to 9 years old.
The programme features five green superheroes: Robin the Worm, Bella the Cat, Hermit the Crab, Phoebe the Firefly and Jojo the Turtle. Each of these superheroes champions a pillar of good eco-habits (Saving Our Energy, Recycling Right, Towards Zero Waste, Keeping our Environment Clean and Promoting Good Public Health) that children can adopt to save the environment.
Through workshops which comprises of engaging skits, sing-a-long music, hands-on activities and fun quizzes, students are brought on an adventure to learn about these eco-habits, gaining knowledge on environmental sustainability and ownership.
Activity books and playing cards are also given to the students for them to bring home and complete the green activities with their family members. These bonding sessions help to reinforce environmental awareness within households and inspire them to care for and adopt a clean, green and sustainable lifestyle.
