Pei Hwa Secondary School has been organising Community Day biennially to raise funds for 5 Voluntary Welfare Organisations (VWOs). For Community Day 2019, the school included an additional pledge of 10 trees to the Plant-A-Tree Programme organised by NParks. The school also embarked on the environmental theme of "Towards Zero Waste" in 2019 during Earth Week, where Climate Change causes and impact were shared in every classroom during Form Teacher period.

To educate the students on the positive impact of trees to the environment, NParks was invited down for an assembly programme. During Community Day, the Student Council booth helped to raise awareness on the importance of having more trees in urban Singapore through various activities. These include selling terrariums to highlight the importance of biodiversity while raising funds for the Plant-A-Tree programme, and also engaging participants in a Question and Answer segment on the little actions they can take to combat climate change in their daily lives.

The school involved their students in the planting of the 10 trees in October 2019 at designated Park Connectors, thereby reducing carbon dioxide levels by 60 kg per year and benefiting Singaporeans with better air quality.

In a survey conducted on Community Day, 84% of the visitors indicated that the booth was beneficial in cultivating environmental awareness. More than 90% of the student leaders felt that they had helped the visitors appreciate plants more.
